The State of the Southern Illinois Cycling Scene

I watched that video as well. I don't think the interest in riding is down, the boys over at @Bike Surgeon SOIL are never bored. More people riding = more people breaking things = more repairs. I think people are more risk adverse and tbf, most of the cyclist in the area are not high...

    Bike care

It will get the wax off the outside of the links. I went wax to try to get more miles our of the chain so i want to keep as much wax in there as possible.

    Handlebar tape

Depends on how muddy it is really. If it's dry and you don't crash a lot, bar tape can last years. On the other-hand all my bikes have ripped bar tape because i wreck from time to time while racing.

    Tubeless

I spent so long on tubes and was super lucky. When i moved to Lexington I had tons of issues. Then when I moved back to southern Illinois i went tubeless and i wont be back on tubes.

How often do you take photos while cycling?

I'm not a picture taker in general. My wife hates it.

    Bike care

I'm so bad about this. I use household degreasers and cleaners on the bike. Dawn and some spray thing my wife has. I will do this for all my bikes that are on chain lube. Full clean with brushed and get the drivetrain looking good enough to eat off of. The road bike has a waxed chain. So i'm a...

Hank Dieters has the FKT for it. I may go for it next during the winter months.

    Clipped in while mountain biking

I've ridden clipped in and flats on a MTB. I far prefer to be clipped in. You can fake having better control of the back end being clipped in and I have found myself coming close to hitting the boys by slipping off the pedals.

    Helmet brand and style

I love specialized helmets. Although i haven't tried any other brands, the spec ones do what they say on the tin.

    Tubeless

I can't count the number of times i've come home from a ride (gravel, road, mtb) and the seat tube is speckled in sealant. Without being tubeless i would 100% flatted and had to end my ride earlier than expected. The lower pressures allowed by tubeless benefit everyone, especially those of us...

    Handlebar tape

Usually about once a season. I honestly really like the Zipp service course road tape. It seems to be more durable than the lizard skins (which are super comfy, but they wouldn't last a cx season).
