I watched that video as well. I don't think the interest in riding is down, the boys over at @Bike Surgeon SOIL are never bored. More people riding = more people breaking things = more repairs. I think people are more risk adverse and tbf, most of the cyclist in the area are not high...
It will get the wax off the outside of the links. I went wax to try to get more miles our of the chain so i want to keep as much wax in there as possible.
Depends on how muddy it is really. If it's dry and you don't crash a lot, bar tape can last years. On the other-hand all my bikes have ripped bar tape because i wreck from time to time while racing.
I spent so long on tubes and was super lucky. When i moved to Lexington I had tons of issues. Then when I moved back to southern Illinois i went tubeless and i wont be back on tubes.

I've ridden clipped in and flats on a MTB. I far prefer to be clipped in. You can fake having better control of the back end being clipped in and I have found myself coming close to hitting the boys by slipping off the pedals.
