practice makes perfect. do more practice braking, that should help you feel more comfortable going downhill as you will have the confidence that you can get the biked stopped if needed.
That was my power profile for the longest time. Since then I have found that specific effort doesn't do me much good in a race. I focus now on 3-5 min power, and being able to do it all day long. All that being said, yea pushing above where you're capable does require these near threshold...
If you're worried about speed, definitely just go do some group rides. It will help you get more comfortable at higher speeds for similar efforts.
My biggest weakness is my brain. Haven't found a way around that.
I don't really see the point. I'll either go barehanded (if I really don't anticipate a wreck, i.e. training ride) or full finger gloves (material dependent on season) if i'm racing or MTBing
