I think a chamois lined short is atleast semi-required, as wearing just shorts for people who ride more than 1-2 hours a week is not likely to happen. outside of that, no
I'm of the mind that either I'll be in shorts or tights. If i'm in shorts, im not doing insulated shorts. I'll get too hot. I do have cargo insulated bib tights from TBB, they're fantastic.
I actually don't drink that much water. I have 2 coffees and about 20 ounces of fluid during lunch. I find if i drink any more than that i may induce cramping.
The challenge around here is that many of us do the DSR. So you have to be somewhat fit at the beginning of March. So starting any later than December doesn't really allow for that.
