Superman Ride Thoughts

The Superman ride in Metro was small this year. I feel like less than last year. If it wasn't for CRCC riders, they might have had to cancel it, really.

I have a feeling that it's not going to keep going. I hate that we're losing all the bike rides and races but it all seems to be the same reason: too far to support each others rides I guess.

If I were to improve the Superman ride, I would:
  1. Put it on RunSignUp. Their registration this time could had been a confusing factor that stopped others from joining it
  2. Offer a 100-mile route. That might encourage more serious riders to participate.
  3. Offer a 20-mile route. I think a lot of people would join in for a 20-mile option.
Other than that, the SAG and support is always good!

What do you all think?

The weather was bad that morning. It also took place on the day the RAIL ride existed.

I wish the weather wasn't that bad. I would've done it.
It was pretty nice. I want to try it again one day, but everything was against me when I attempted it last time.

My wife and I camped at the state park. The nearby quarry worked all night long. I listening to it all night. I got maybe 1.5 hours of sleep. Then the heat, hills, and lack of sleep pretty much killed me out.

I did 101 miles out of the 135ish miles. I made it from Cave-in-Rock to Ava before I threw in the towel. It was still the longest and hilliest ride I've ever done. While I didn't finish, I'm still proud of myself for doing as much as I did.

I worked the RAIL ride as mechanic/sag/etc. We had 18 riders signed up. Only 11 started due to the heat. 9 of the 11 starters finished. Both riders who didn’t finish dropped at the 105 mile rest stop. Both (one man, one woman) were in their 70’s.

Brutal heat and humidity for a 165 mile ride.
