I'm glad they're riding with them, but I really feel like one could be created here. Schools could help get kids on board. It's also a healthy initiative.
I love all of your suggestions!
I do think we're starting to see some infrastructure improvements in the bigger cities in Southern Illinois.
Bike rentals would be a great idea! If I could afford to get into that, I definitely would.
I group ride in Paducah on Mondays (road bike) and there are some kids that ride with us that are a part of the McCracken Mountain Biking racing team. It's turning into a pretty big thing over there. SEMO has it's Mudcats which is also a big deal.
Isn't it time for Southern Illinois bike...
In your opinion, what is the one thing that would make Southern Illinois better for cycling?
If you could add or change one thing to make cycling better in this region, what would it be?
Welcome Jerry!
You might be close enough to join St Nicks bike club in Du Quoin. They do both road and gravel riding the last time I checked.
I feel like there is a Mt Vernon cycling scene, too. I want to say General Tire (or whatever it is now) has a bunch of riders working there.
I have a pair of cycling shorts that I bought 13 years ago from Aero Tech Designs. They're still in great shape, too! Back then, I paid around $20 for the shorts. ADT wasn't as known as it is today, either. But I liked that the shorts were made in America and they're super comfortable though I...
Do we have too many overlapping organized bike rides and racing events in the region?
For example, Spokes for Strokes and Tour de Donut were on the same day. Both of these events are for a good cause and can be very popular. One event robs the other event of riders.
Do you think race and ride...
Not bad.
I rode with CRCC on Monday in Paducah. 17.6 MPH was my average for 20 miles. Not bad but it wasn't that hilly, either. I stayed out of the draft line until I get used to riding with a group again (been a while) so I'm sure once I get into that, my average will probably go up.
I am aware of a division between regular cyclists and e-cyclists.
But I also look at this way:
We regular cyclists have been fighting for our right to exist for decades, right?
Would be hypocrites to say e-cyclists shouldn't have the same rights as us?
I mean, our bikes aren't traditional...
I agree.
And now it's seeming like more and more that the city's meth heads and up-to-no-good people are the reason behind this. So, basically, ban the e-bikes instead of going after the real problem which is drugs.
All I can do is shake my head.
It appears Harrisburg will be banning e-bikes from their city bike trail.
NOTE, their trail is not a part of Tunnel Hill State Trail although it connects to it. Feazle Street and south is IDNR and e-bikes are allowed on it.
How do you all feel about this ban?
Some cyclists dislike e-bikes...
